Common use

Hsquin is primarily used to prevent and manage uncomplicated malaria. This medication belongs to a class of medicines known as disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs), which also have anti-inflammatory and immunomodulating effects. In addition to its role in managing malaria, this tablet is also used to manage rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in adults. Some off-label uses include managing conditions such as discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE) and porphyria cutanea tarda.

Dosage and direction

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the tablet. Always take this medicine with food or milk to minimise discomfort in your stomach. Do not take more than the recommended dose without consulting your doctor. Consult your doctor before discontinuing this medicine.

Precautions

Pregnancy: Hsquin should be used during pregnancy only if the benefits outweigh the potential risks. It is wise to consult your doctor before starting this medication.
Breastfeeding: It's recommended that you consult your doctor before taking Hsquin while breastfeeding and discuss the potential risks of this medicine.
Psoriasis and Porphyria: Caution is advised for patients with psoriasis and porphyria, as this medicine may worsen their condition.
Liver & Kidney Disease: Patients suffering from liver or kidney diseases should consult their doctor before taking Hsquin due to the potential worsening of their condition.
Myasthenia Gravis: This medicine may increase weakness in people suffering from myasthenia gravis.

Contraindications

Do not use Hsquin if you have an allergic reaction (hypersensitivity) to any of its components. Do not take this medicine if you consume alcohol. Due to a possible interaction, Hydroxychloroquine may increase the chance of serious adverse effects.

Possible side effect

Hsquin may have the following side effects: Nausea; Vomiting; Diarrhea; Abdominal pain; Headache; Dizziness; Retinopathy: This condition affects the retina, which is the part of the eye that senses light and sends images to the brain.

Drug interaction

Cardiac Medications: Cardiac medications like digoxin could interact with Hsquin, potentially leading to altered medication effects or increased risk of side effects.
Insulin and Anti-diabetic Medicines: Hsquin may affect blood glucose levels and potentially reduce the effectiveness of insulin and metformin.
Immune-modulating Medicines: Medicines such as cyclosporine and methotrexate may have possible interactions with Hsquin, leading to an increased risk of adverse effects.
Anti-epileptics: Concurrent use of anti-epileptic medicines, like carbamazepine and phenytoin, could interact with this tablet, altering its efficacy or causing potential side effects.

Missed dose

If you forget to take your dose of Hsquin, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it's nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular schedule. Never double up on doses without consulting your doctor.

Overdose

In case of an accidental overdose, you might experience symptoms like headaches, drowsiness, and vision changes. If these symptoms persist or worsen, it's essential to inform your doctor.

Storage

Store Hsquin at room temperature. Keep it in a closed container to protect it from moisture and light. Always keep this medicine out of children's reach. Ensure that you use the tablets before its expiry date.
